Description:

Manufactured in the mid-1800s by the George Wostenholm firm of Sheffield, England. 9 7/8 inches overall with a 5 1/16 inch clip point blade which is marked "GEORGE/WOSTENHOLM/SHEFFIELD" along the spine and "I*XL" on the left ricasso. The guard is a simple oval of German silver. The handle is relief carved antique ivory with leafy patterns near the pommel. Includes a red leather sheath that is marked "I*XL" in gold with German silver fittings including an belt hook attached at the throat.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the blade showing mostly bright with some scattered speckling of brown patina and spotting and evidence of moderate cleaning/sharpening. The handle is fine with a 2 1/2 inch long age crack on the right side and some mild wear. The sheath is very good with mostly bright fittings, a few scattered patches of antique patina, and some mild wear on the leather.
