Description:

Around 10,000 of these pistols were manufactured by Brown Manufacturing Co. in Newburyport, Mass., c. 1869-1873. Of those, only around 3,000 were the iron frame version. This design was first manufactured under the Merrimack Arms & Mfg. Co. from 1866-1869. They are rarely found with significant original finish, especially case colors, like this very fine pistol. Most spent many long days in someone's pocket making all high condition examples desirable, and standard non-engraved pistols even harder to find in high condition. It has a small German silver blade front sight, "BROWN MF'G. Co./NEWBURYPORT. MASS./PAT. APR. 9. 1867." and matching serial numbers, including on the dark rosewood grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 70% bright original blue finish remaining on the barrel along with gray and brown patina and light scratches. The frame retains 80% of the original case colors. The grips are also very fine with minor handling and edge wear. Mechanically excellent. A hard to find casehardened iron frame Southerner derringer with this high level of condition.
