A) Miquelet Pistol

Manufacturer: Unknown
Model: Blunderbus
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 55
Barrel: 8 5/8 inch round
Finish: bright
Grip:
Stock: hardwood
Item Views: 1434
Item Interest: Average
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 113
Class: Antique
Description:

Both pistols have extensive decoration and fine attributes, including Damascus barrels, engraving, niello work, various inlays, pierced accents on the butts, sling rings on the butts and left flats, ball triggers and unknown calligraphic markings on the locks. Very similar overall patterns have been noted on other examples, likely by the same unknown maker. The caliber is estimated above. The barrels flare out prominently at the muzzle for easier loading. The butt of gun "A" also has a Clay P. Bedford collection tag. The ball triggers were particularly popular in the Caucasus region, parts of which were controlled by the Ottoman, Persian, and Russian empires in the 19th century when these pistols were likely made. There are no provisions for a ramrod as regional preference was to store loading items separately.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with bright polished metal, moderate pitting, mild scratches and marks, slight chipping and gaps in the stock at the breech, smooth wood and inlays, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
