Description:

The gun is most likely Germanic in origin and features a post front sight, gold inlaid borders and accents including small animals, a relief chiseled wolf in an alpine scene on the right lock, wolf heads on the hammers, a fox in another alpine scene on the left lock, a relief chiseled buck in a forest scene on the breech plate, dog and brace of game birds on the trigger guard, another dog on the ramrod entry pipe, and an eagle on the heel of the buttplate. The stock has silver pins accenting the checkering and a prominent cheekpiece. Sling swivels are mounted on the middle ramrod pipe and the bottom of the butt. There is a small German silver accent on the bottom of the forend engraved with "vK," presumably for its original noble owner.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Most of the original gold inlay remains though some has flaked (mostly on the breech end of the barrels), and the remaining areas display a mix of brown and gray patina, some slight pitting/oxidation, and distinct engraving and Damascus patterns. The right barrel is dented near the muzzle. The stock and the metal have cracks and repairs in the forend section, and there is a crack in the bottom of the stock between the locks. The checkering is partially smoothed, and the stock has the usual small scratches and dents. Mechanically fine. Overall, this is a very interesting continental European double barrel shotgun.
