Casehardened patent breeches each with pierced platinum plug. Casehardened border and scroll engraved standing breech and locks, the latter each signed “J.E. EVANS” and engraved with a differing hunting dog scene. Furniture including blued trigger guard engraved with a further hunting dog scene. Finely figured walnut half stock with checkered grip and forearm, the wrist inset with a blank gold shield shaped escutcheon. With brass mounted wooden ramrod. In brass cornered oak fitted case with accessories including leather shot flask and Hawksley powder flask.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% fading rebrowned finish with some areas of spotting and clear markings. The breech, action, and hammers are mostly a silver grey patina with some visible original casehardened finish on the breech and protected areas, with crisp engraving. The trigger guard has about 80% vibrant blue finish and approximately 40% remains on the butt plate. The refreshed wood has minimal handling marks and well defined checkering. The case is very fine with several handling scratches on the exterior and some slight tears to the older relined interior. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
