Manufactured in circa 1885, with blued steel barrels respectively signed “MANTON & CO. GUNMAKERS TO H.R.H. THE” and “DUKE OF EDINBURGH KG. LONDON & CALCUTTA”, and with broad matted rib with doll’s head extension, rear sight of one standing and one folding leaf calibrated to “200” yards and each with platinum inlaid center line, and ramp mounted bead front sight. Action with carved percussion fences and stippled matted top surface. Border and scroll engraved back action rebounding locks each signed “MANTON & CO." The action and furniture engraved with double line borders. The barrels and action are struck with London black powder proof marks. Figured walnut pistol grip stock with rubber recoil pad, raised cheekpiece, checkered grip and forearm, the last with lever latch. The underside of the butt with blank silver oval initial escutcheon and sling eye, the corresponding sling eye mounted beneath the barrels.

Barrels retaining nearly all of the reblued finish, occasional spots of pitting visible under the finish, tube signatures softened. Action and rebounding back action locks with grey discolored patina, some visible pitting, engraving clear throughout. Some screws and pins reblued. Pistol grip stock refinished, checkering well defined, some age staining and occasional minor storage blemish, later rubber recoil pad. Stippled matting on top of action crisp.
