Manufactured circa 1888-1889. Blue steel dovetail lump barrels with single bead sight, chambers proved and measured at 2 3/4 inches with single extractor, and London nitro proofs from the 1954 to 1989 period. Casehardened action and locks with London proofs on the water table, sculpted fences, engraved sculpted hammers, and "J. PURDEY & SONS" maker's marks on the locks. The action and locks have full coverage Purdey rose and scroll engraving with the "PURDEY'S PATENT" marking on the underside and "PATENT" marked break lever. Checkered splinter forearm and straight grip stock with Anson latch, blank initial oval, engraved fittings, and serrated, thick horn buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech proved at .729/.729 and measured at .733/.734; choke constriction .033/.055 (full/extra full); minimum wall thickness .030/.034; drop at comb 1 5/8 inches; drop at heel 2 3/8 inches; length of pull 14 3/4 inches.

Fine. The replacement barrels have 90% refinished blue with visible pitting at the muzzle, streaks of thicker blue finish along the tubes next to the rib, and some minor handling marks. The action and locks have 80% restored vibrant case colors with some areas of silvering and gray patina, well defined engraving and markings, and slightly light markings on the lever and trigger guard. The refinished wood is also fine with crisp recut checkering, scattered small dings, some bigger bruises on the right side of the stock, and thin gap at the buttplate junction. Mechanically excellent.
