Description:

This Springfield Armory M1 Garand rifle was manufactured September 1941 and subsequently arsenal modified to M1D configuration. The rifle is fitted with a standard blued M84 2.2 power telescopic sight with post and cross-wire cross-hairs, sliding sun shield and rubber eyepiece. The stock is fitted with a russet leather cheek-piece stamped "MRT/ 1 52" on the right side. The muzzle has a stamped Hart M2 Flashider. The rifle has the special M1D barrel with scope mounting block marked "S-A-8-52" on the right side of the chamber. The rifle is a post-war rebuild with "WRA" marked trigger housing, "-19SA" bolt, "HRA" operating rod, and T105 rear sight. The metal components, correctly, have a mixture of dark green or black green parkerized finishes. The rifle has a post-war birch stock with National Defense final inspection stamp on the left wrist and encircled "P" proof mark on the bottom of the pistol grip. The hand guard and forearm are walnut. The telescopic sight has a plate on the right side marked: "TELESCOPE/M84/SERIAL NO. 38248. This rifle was probably overhauled and assembled to M1D configuration at an Army Ordnance Depot in the 1960s. The M1D was the standard Army sniper rifle from the mid-1950s until the late 1960s. M1D rifles remained in the inventories of some Army National Guard units and Special Forces groups until the early 1990s.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle appears to be un-issued following arsenal conversion to M1D configuration. The receiver, bolt, barrel, gas cylinder and trigger guard retain 98% of the green or black-green parkerized finish. The operating rod has 95% of the contrasting parkerized finish with slight edge wear. The telescopic sight retains 95% of the original blue finish. The scope optics are excellent. The scope mount has 98% of the original gray-green parkerized finish. The stock is in excellent plus condition with crisp markings and minimal wear. The hand guard and forearm are in the same condition. The russet leather cheek piece is in excellent condition and the M2 Flashider retains 98% of the original parkerized finish. This is a solid representative example of a late production M1D sniper rifle.
