Description:

The two-stage barrel is marked "OESTERR.WAFFFB.GES." and struck with a crowned ‘"FW" monogram and numerous Imperial German military inspection marks on the octagonal breech section. Ramp mounted front and blued adjustable standing rear sights. The octagonal receiver is marked "K.MOD.71" on the side wall, struck with further Imperial German military inspection marks, the date "1876" and with an engraved panel of diamond-shaped checkering to the top-flat (each diamond with a dot in the center). Bolt with flag safety and engraved with a further panel of diamond-shaped checkering, casehardened trigger plate, double set triggers, highly figured 13 ½ inch walnut half stock with sliding patch box cover, checkered panels to the grip and forend, raised cheekpiece and scrolled wood pistol grip trigger guard, plain casehardened steel buttplate, iron sling mounts, and original brass cleaning rod. Weight is 9 lbs. 1.2 oz. This gun bears the German crowned ‘V’ Vorratszeichen mark denoting pre-1891 manufacture. Provenance: Property of a German Prince, great, great grandchild of Emperor Franz Josef I, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period custom upgraded to sporting configuration. The exterior retains 85% faded plum colored finish, and some stronger bluing remains on the bolt. The stock is very fine with a small amount of scattered slight storage and handling marks. The trigger mechanism sets correctly.
