Description:

The Webley-Fosbery revolver was designed by Lt. Col. G. V. Fosbery and utilizes a novel "automatic" mechanism. It is a true revolver with cartridges held in a cylinder, but the upper assembly is pushed rearward under recoil which cocks the hammer and rotates the cylinder which allows for faster firing while maintaining the low trigger pull of a single action revolver or pistol and also allows for the use of more powerful cartridges compared to the early semi-automatic pistols. It has fixed sights, "P.WEBLEY & SON.LONDON & BIRMINGHAM." on the top of the rib, "WEBLEY·FOSBERY" on the left side of the trop strap, the winged bullet trademark and "455 CORDITE" on the left side of the frame, the full serial number on the right side of the frame, matching partial or full serial numbers on the cylinder and most of the internal components, a Kynoch .455 cartridge head inlaid in the top of the right grip, a lanyard ring on the butt, and "C.B. Tennent" inscribed on the back strap. Tennent's identity has not been confirmed; however, Fosbery revolvers are known to have been purchased by British officers and used through World War I, and a Lieutenant C. B. Tennent is mentioned as serving in the Indian Mountain Artillery on October 21, 1915.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 40% faded original blue finish, smooth brown patina on the faded areas, spots of light oxidation, and mild overall wear. The slightly undersized refinished, recheckered grips are very fine and have crisp checkering, light dings, and minor handling wear. Mechanically fine.
