Description:

This is an excellent, early production factory cased Loewe Model 1893 Borchardt semi-automatic pistol with a compliment of accessories that include one original matching magazine, a dummy magazine, shoulder stock, leather holster, cleaning rod, and oil can. These early 1893 Borchardt pistols used a unique toggling breech mechanism that was adopted and later refined by George Luger, which became the standard toggle-mechanism used throughout all later Luger production. The chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN.", with the right side of the barrel extension marked with "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT". The top of the toggle is roll marked with the German patent markings of "D.R.P./No. 75837". The right side of the breechblock and toggle mechanism are stamped with double "crown/B" and single "crown/U" proof mark with a single "crown/U" firing proof on the left side of the breech block. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the early German commercial "crown/B" and "U" proof marks with the underside of the barrel having the full German commercial proofs of the "crown/B" "G" and "U" proofs over the bore diameter of "172,28". It is fitted with a set of original grips that have the checkered center section with the smooth outer border area. The desirable pistol is complete with one original matching numbers magazine, the original matching numbered walnut shoulder stock with the black leather holster attached. The right rear side of the stock is numbered "294" and is also correctly stamped: "GESETZLICH GESCHUTZT". An original wooden dummy/storage magazine with the brass oiler on the bottom, a one-piece brass cleaning rod, a small glass oil bottle, a small nickel plated, flat oiler with its leather cover, and a small tin of Vaseline with its leather cover. The pistol and all accessories are housed in an original black leather bound, storage case with seven compartments, a green felt lining with sliver hasps and lock plate on the front.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus of the original blue on the pistol with edge and high spot wear with thinning blue on the front and rear grip straps mixed with a slight gray patina. The small parts retaining 85% of their original nitre blued finish overall. The original walnut grips are in excellent condition with most of their original varnish finish, distinct original checkering on both sides, and only two minor pressure dents in the middle section on the left grip. The matching number walnut shoulder stock is in excellent condition with nice original oil finish, clear sharp markings, and only a couple handling marks on the sides. The attaching iron retains 95% of its blue finish. The attached leather holster retains 60% of the black leather face with the remaining area having flaked off. The other accessories are all in fine condition. The black storage case is in good condition with the outer leather cover still intact but retaining half of the original back leather face with the balance having flaked off. The case has a slight crack starting on the top of the lid on the right lower corner area, with the leather handle having come loose on one end.
