This rifle was originally produced by the Mauser factory under a commercial contract for the country of Portugal, but was diverted to the German Army for use in the early stages of WWII. The top of the receiver is marked with an "eagle/135" acceptance proof over the large Portuguese Crest over "1941". The receiver side wall is marked "MAUSER-WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF A.N." the left rear side of the barrel and receiver have the large German firing proof. This model was produced with the early milled barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate. The walnut stock and handguard are marked on the left side below the bolt takedown hole with the large "Portuguese Crest over 1941" and the right side of the buttstock, the pistol grip area and the lower stock are marked with "eagle/WaA135" Waffenamt proof. It is complete with an original cleaning rod, front sight hood, and an original contract matching number bayonet and scabbard. The rifle has all matching numbers including the bayonet.

Excellent plus, as issued overall with 99% bright original blue finish with a slight drag mark visible on the bolt body from cycling. The wood is also excellent with clear and distinct proofs with just a couple of minor handling or rack marks. The bayonet is also in excellent condition with 98% original blued finish on the blade and scabbard. Mechanically excellent.
