Description:

This is a very nice late war K98 rifle that was manufactured at the Mauser Werkes at Borsigwalde. The top of the receiver is marked with the correct "eagle/135" acceptance proof over "ar" and "44" for 1944 the year of manufacture. The receiver side wall has the correct "Mod 98" markings and the right side of the receiver is marked with the correct "eagle/26" proof. Both the left side of the receiver and barrel has the correct large "eagle" firing proof. It has the correct milled lower and stamped and welded upper barrel bands and the trigger guard and floor plate are also the correct stamped versions. Both are correctly marked "byf" and "eagle/135" proofed showing manufacture at the Oberndorf plant. The stock and hand guard are the correct late war laminate versions and there is a single "eagle/WaA135" acceptance proof on the right side below the sling slot. The serial numbers are all matching. It is complete with the original cleaning rod, and a brown cross-hatched leather sling that has a "eagle/655" acceptance proof on the leather tab. As noted in "Backbone of the Wehrmacht" this is the highest serial numbered, "ar" coded rifle listed in his survey.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 90% original blue finish on the metal parts with browning on the edges of the barrel bands and the edges of the trigger guard. The stock is very fine with a small chip in the edge of the wood below the ejection port. Mechanically excellent. An exceptional late war Mauser coded rifle.
