Blade and tangent sights, with "eagle/ 280" proofs on the breech and receiver ring, "ax/1940" manufacturer/date markings on the ring, and "Mod. 98" in correct script on the receiver wall. Matching numbers are present on multiple components, including the bolt and the stock. Smooth laminated stock, with an "eagle/H" Heer stamp, "eagle/280" stamps and a flat buttplate. Includes a brown leather sling. Only in production for 2 years, Feinmechanische Werke "ax" code arms are hard to find in collectible condition.

Fine, with 60% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, bright edge wear and light handling marks and spotting. The pin securing the bayonet lug to the forearm has been removed. The lightly sanded stock is very good, with cracks at the wrist and a number of mild scuffs and dents. Mechanically excellent.
