A single Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The cartridge elevator is marked "44 CAL." The left side of the receiver is fitted with a saddle ring. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model/trade mark information. The lower tang has the serial number. The stock is fitted with a trapdoor carbine buttplate. Includes a three piece cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 85% plus original blue finish with patches of smooth brown patina on the balance. 40% original niter blue remains on the loading gate. 60% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. Patterns of original case colors remain on the buttplate. The buttstock is fine with much of the varnish and a number of minor dings and scratches. The forearm is very good with traces of finish. Mechanically excellent. These carbines are a highly desirable variation of the Model 1873 and were used greatly during the period, leaving high condition examples like this one difficult to find.
