Manufactured in 1909. The rifle is fitted with a modified long blade front sight, an elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight and a folding tang peep sight. The barrel is stamped with the two-line address/patent date marking ahead of the rear sight on the top flat and "25-20 W.C.F." on the upper left flat at the breech. A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver. The receiver is fitted with special order double set triggers. The forearm and pistol grip stock are X deluxe walnut and feature "H" style checkering. The special order extra length buttstock is fitted with a hard rubber Winchester grip cap. The left side of the lower tang is stamped "6709 X." The assembly number "6709" is repeated on the buttstock under the buttplate and on the back of the buttplate. Winchester expert and author George Madis calculated, "Only 1 of each 700 model 92's had pistol grips; only one of each 800 hand checkering or carving. When you consider the comparative rarity of many Winchesters, it is not surprising that all Winchesters are so eagerly collected." This Model 1892 is pictured and identified in Madis' "The Winchester Book" on page 376 where "the stock [of] two inches longer than standard" is noted. Madis states, "Special stocks, available longer, shorter or offset, were offered for all Winchester models and were made in limited numbers."

Very good, retaining 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. 75% original niter blue remains on the loading gate. Traces of original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. There are some scattered patches of pitting which have been touched up with artificial brown. The wood is very good with a series of chips on the forearm (left side), number of minor dings and scratches and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. A seldom encountered deluxe Model 1892 with extra length stock and double set triggers missing from even the most advanced Winchester collections.
