This is a special order takedown variation of the Winchester Model 1892 rifle, a very scarce configuration for this model. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .32 caliber, plain trigger, checkered plain pistol grip stock, Lyman rear and globe sights, and takedown configuration when received in the warehouse on December 30, 1896 and shipped the next day. The rifle is fitted with a globe front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight and tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address and "32 WCF." The forearm and pistol grip stock are checkered straight grain walnut. The buttstock is fitted with a hard rubber Winchester grip cap. The left side of the lower tang is stamped "2864 CF." The assembly number "2864" is repeated on the buttstock under the buttplate and on the back of the buttplate.

Fine, retaining 60% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the top left receiver along with a few areas of mild pitting. 70% original niter blue remains on the loading gate. 50% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is also fine with a slight chip at the upper tang, minor dings and scratches and crisp fine checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
