The receiver is elaborately engraved with a floral scroll pattern on a punch dot background along with bordering. The scrollwork is very similar to the type of scrolls found with the factory Grade No. 5 engraving, as illustrated in Brophy's "Marlin Firearms" on page 531, but lacking a game scene. The exposed barrel flats towards the breech feature engraved scrollwork. Scrollwork also adorns the takedown collar, and the forend cap has engraved flourishes. The rifle is fitted with a Sheard beaded blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The top barrel flat features the two-line address/patent dates ending with the year 1893, a marking used before 1920, stamped ahead of the rear sight along with "32-H.P.S." The upper left barrel flat is stamped "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL." The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY." The upper tang is marked "MODEL/1893." The half magazine is a non-standard feature. The barrel, magazine tube, receiver and buttplate are blue. The screws are plated in gold. The forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured deluxe walnut and feature a factory No. G checking. As described by Marlin period advertising, "No. G in this style the band is continued unbroken around the forearm. It is our No. B checkering with addition of band." The buttstock is fitted with a crescent buttplate.

Exceptionally fine, retaining 75% bright original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. 90% original gold remains on the screws. 40% original niter blue remains on the loading gate. A few areas of original case colors remain on the lever. The wood is fine with minor dings and scratches and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. An outstanding example of Marlin artistry at the beginning of the 20th century.
