Manufactured in 1880 as a second model with dust cover guide rail attached by two screws and a dust over with oval finger guide. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .45-60 caliber, plain trigger, and casehardened receiver when received in the warehouse on April 10, 1880 and shipped on April 12. Dovetail blade front sight, "1876" marked folding ladder rear sight, and peep sight mount on the tang. Top barrel flat has the two-line address/patent dates marking as well as "CAL. 45-60." "45-60" is repeated on the cartridge elevator. The straight grip stock is fitted with a trapdoor crescent buttplate. A five piece cleaning rod is included (lacks a handle/end piece).

Fine. The barrel, magazine and dust cover retains 60% original blue finish with the balance an even aged patina. 20% original niter blue remains on the loading gate. 50% original case colors remain on the frame, hammer, lever and forend cap vibrant in flashes and mellow on the balance. The wood is also fine with a couple small chips on the wrist at the frame and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
