This late 19th century derringer has exceptional scroll engraving on 75% of the visible surfaces along with some attractive borders and accents. The barrel has a rounded blade front sights, "XL. DERRINGER" on top, and "PAT. APR. 5. 1870" in a banner on the upper left flat. The matching serial number is on the left side of the front strap and inside the pearl grips. Includes a small brown leather flap holster.

Exceptionally fine with 98% plus original nickel plating, crisp engraving, and minor handling and storage related wear. The grips are very fine and have natural iridescent tones, a couple of tiny blemishes on the left, and minor handling wear. Mechanically excellent. The holster is good and has moderate wear, some missing stitching, and absent button and loop. Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
