Description:

Manufactured c. mid-late 1800s by Samuel Hancock & Sons of Sheffield, England. The overall length is 15 1/4 inches with a 10 1/4 inch clip point blade. The blade is marked "SAML HANCOCK/PEACROFT/SHEFFIELD" just below the spine, the man riding a horse backwards over "MAZEPPA" trademarks on the ricasso, and a large etched panel that reads "GOLD MINERS PROTECTOR", all on the left side. The handle is of German silver with a turned down guard and flared pommel, flat horn grip scales and an escutcheon on the left side.

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing mostly a bright grey patina with some scattered light surface pitting, some evidence of light cleaning/sharpening, and well-defined etched panel. The handle shows generally an attractive antique patina with some light scratches and scattered light chips on the grip scales.
