Description:

Manufactured in 1903. Standard sights, "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side of the barrel, one-line address on top of the barrel, two-line patent marking and circled Rampant Colt trademark on the left side of the frame, assembly number "6721" on the loading gate, and "246071" on the frame, trigger guard, and butt. Includes letter of provenance from Ed Cox detailing purchase directly from the prominent Montana pioneer Jeffers Family, who made the journey from New York to the west in the 1850s and established a cattle ranch near Ennis, Montana, in 1871. The Jeffers family would give their name to a township just south of Ennis, where they would continue in the cattle business until the disastrous winter 1886 - 1887 led to the dissolution of their cattle pool in 1893. The included factory letter lists this revolver with a 5 1/2 inch barrel in .44-40 caliber and blue finish when sold to Jeffers and Switzer (another prominent local family) and shipped to A.M Holter Hardware, Helena, Montana, on August 14, 1903.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. Retaining 50% original blue finish with the balance of a smooth gray patina, mixed with some scattered pitting. 40% original case colors remain on hammer and frame. Fine grips with scratch on left panel and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. A Colt SAA linked to a prominent Montana family that has real west character. Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
