Description:

While the Colt Model 1849 Pocket was the most widely sold Colt firearm of the 19th century, they are still rarely found in high condition, especially the revolvers manufactured during the Civil War or prior. This revolver was produced in 1865 and has "P" marked by the matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame trigger guard, and back strap which is believed to represent special polishing and/or plating. The other serial numbers also match. The barrel has the usual New York address, and the other markings are standard. The fitted hardwood case contains a double sided eagle powder flask, Colt patent brass dual cavity bullet mold without a sprue cutter, cap tin, and two cartridge packs.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 70% original high polish blue finish, 75% plus original case colors, traces of original silver plating in the concealed areas, aged patina on the brass, mild overall wear, some light oxidation mainly at the front and rear of the cylinder, a series of scrapes inside most of the chambers, and distinct markings. The grip is very fine and has nearly all of the varnish remaining, minor edge wear, and a few small scratches and dings. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are fine and have generally mild wear such as some thin cracks in the case lid and a bunch of dings on the mold. A solid and interesting cased Model 1849 Pocket in very fine condition.
