This rifle was manufactured in 1876-1881 given the J.M. Marlin marking on the left side of the frame. It features a Beach style combination front sight, elevation adjustable U-notch sporting rear sight, "45 Govt" on top near the breech, six non-factory installed taps with screws for mounting a scope on the barrel, tang mounted peep sight, double set triggers, standard ramrod pipes and cleaning rod below the barrel, matching serial numbers (barrel, forearm, frame, and buttplate, stock not dismounted), smooth stock and forearm, and steel buttplate.

Fine with 75% plus original bright blue finish on the barrel and sights, 40% original case colors on the action along with mottled gray and brown patina, more vibrant original case colors on the hammer, and a dark blend of faded original case colors and dark patina on the buttplate. The re-oiled wood is also fine and has some minor dings and scratches and some cracks in the wrist and butt. Mechanically fine.
