Description:

This is an example of an exceptionally early Model 1892 Krag rifle that has been arsenal converted into the Model 1896 configuration. The side of the receiver is marked "U.S. 1894, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" next to the two-digit serial number "45". It has the updated stock with the plugged cleaning rod slot/hole, the second pattern front barrel band with double straps on top, the later bolt with the extractor with pin, and the receiver has also been altered for the extractor pin. Mounted on a straight grip, finger groove stock with "M" and circled script "P" proof behind the trigger guard. The stock is fitted with the updated smooth buttplate with a curved toe, butt trap and short handguard that meets the front edge of the receiver, fitted with an 1896 rear sight. Includes a cleaning rod and oiler kit in the butt trap and a brass muzzle cap.

Rating Definition:

Very good as arsenal converted to 1896 Pattern, showing mostly a mottled dark blue-brown patina with some areas of grey and a few scattered rough patches. The lightly sanded wood is fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches, a hairline crack near the trigger guard, and clear cartouches. Mechanically excellent.
