Description:

Manufactured c.1896-1898 as part of the first contract run for the United States Navy, the Winchester-Lee was a very advanced weapon for the era, with a rapidly manipulatable cam-driven bolt and a high velocity small bore cartridge with a very flat trajectory. Blade front and ladder rear sights, with "-U.S.N.-/[anchor]/No 6019/-N.C.T.-" on the receiver ring and the two-line New Haven address/patent marks on the left side of the receiver. Smooth pistol grip stock with sling swivels and a smooth buttplate. An unmarked knife bayonet is included, 11 3/4 inches overall with an 8 1/4 inch blade, bright fittings, smooth wood grips, and two leather and steel sheaths.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with 30% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, scattered spotting, mild handling marks and bright wear on the muzzle and high edges. The stock is fair, with a number of dents and scuffs overall. The bayonet is fine, with spotting on the blade and hardware, and mild dings and stains on the grips. One of the sheaths is fine with some scuffing on the leather, and the other is good with wire securing the throat and heavier wear on the leather. Mechanically fine.
