Description:

Manufactured in 1869 as one of only some 650 produced, with less than 10 known finished in nickel. This revolver is a transition between the First and Second Issue Model No. 1 1/2 revolvers. It features the Second Issue type birdshead grip frame while maintaining the First Issue type unfluted cylinder and octagon barrel. According to Supica and Nahas on page 69 of "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson", 200 of the reported 650 were sent to J. W. Storrs of New York City and the remaining 400 went to C. W. May for export to Japan, making this revolver a very rare find in the United States.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 90% plus original frosted nickel finish with some areas of flaking and a cylinder drag line. The grips are also very fine with a few small dings. Mechanically excellent. A very fine example of an incredibly hard to find S&W revolver! Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
