The serial number falls into the Civil War production range (1861 to 1862). Matching serial numbers on the butt and right grip panel and matching assembly marks on the grip frame, barrel, and cylinder. Many of these pistols saw use in the Civil War as they were the first larger caliber weapons with a self contained cartridge.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 85% original blue, some light handling evidence, areas of thinning blue, and a cylinder drag line. The grips very good with some dings and scratches and small area of varnish loss. Mechanically excellent. A great Civil War era No. 2 Army with very desirable barrel length. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
