Type: Pistol
Gauge: 60
Barrel: 9 1/4 inch round
Finish: bright
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 2192

Description:

This early 19th century pistol was manufactured in Birmingham, England, and has a "crown/IS" marking (attributed to Massachusetts gun maker Joseph Stevens) ahead of the pre-1813 Birmingham proof and view marks on the upper left flat at the breech, two unclear stamps on the left flat at the breech, and a "W/KETLAND" marked lock. It is similar to other Birmingham "trade pistols" but does have a more ornate "fluer-de-lis" pattern trigger guard finial rather than the more common acorn pattern and has a blade front sight on a three-stage barrel rather than a simpler barrel without sights.

Rating Definition:

Good with dark brown patina on the lock, lighter patina on the barrel along with pitting concentrated at the vent, aged patina on the brass furniture, repaired mainspring, chipping around the edges of the lock mortise, a few cracks in the stock, and moderate overall wear. Mechanically fine.
