Description:

This revolver was likely retailed by Roberts rather than made by him features border engraving at the muzzle, a round blade front sight, "S. ROBERTS" marking on top of the barrel, notch rear sight near the breech, Birmingham proofs, fine English scroll engraving on the cylinder and action, finely checkered grip, German silver grip escutcheon, and a cap box on the butt. This is a true transitional revolver in that the cylinder has no stops like many pepperboxes whereas some similar style revolvers like the Lang single actions used cylinder stops. It comes in a hardwood case with fitted interior, powder flask, bore rod, cap tin, screwdriver, bullet mold, lead balls, and a couple of spare nipples.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus bright original high polish blue on the barrel, 50% original case colors, smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, minor oxidation, crisp engraving and checkering, a few dings and scratches, and minor handling and storage wear. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are fine with mild storage wear and cracks in the case lid. This is a solid and very attractive example of a distinctive mid-19th century British transitional revolver.
