Description:

The only marking is "PATON" on the lock below the breech, possible for Edward Patton of Perth, Scotland. The Damascus barrel has gold damascened scroll patterns at the muzzle and breech sections, a blade front sight, notch rear sight with two folding leaves, and a double gold banded, gold plugged, and scroll engraved breech. The lock, trigger guard, and buttplate have scroll, floral, bird, and dog engraving., and the upper tang and patch box have floral and scroll engraving. The stock has a nickel silver end cap and escutcheons, checkered wrist, and some old patches in the patch box.

Rating Definition:

Fine with a blend of dark brown patina and finish on the barrel, most of the original gold inlays, traces of original finish on the lock and furniture, otherwise gray and brown patina, some mild oxidation, a worn patch box catch, and general mild wear. The stock is also fine and has crisp checkering, nice grain, some small chips at the edges, general minor scratches and dings, some discoloration on the left side of the comb, and mild wear. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
