The maker’s records list this “Best Quality” double rifle as being completed on October 17, 1890 for the Maharajah of Holkar, one of six consecutively numbered rifles he ordered in calibres ranging from .360 to .577. With browned damascus twist barrels each engraved with a band of stylized foliage at the breech end and with file cut matted rib with bead front sight, back sight of one standing and one folding leaf each with platinum inlaid center line, the folding leaf calibrated for “200” yards, and signed “ALEX.R HENRY, EDINBURGH AND LONDON./MAKER TO THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESS’ THE PRINCE OF WALES AND DUKE OF EDINBURGH”. Casehardened action with carved percussion fences and rebounding back action locks each with blued safety catch and signed “ALEX.R HENRY” within a scroll. Border and scroll engraved throughout including pistol grip cap with hinged trap cover and heel and toe plates. Barrels and action struck with London black powder proof marks. Well figured pistol grip stock with raised cheekpiece, checkered grip and forearm, the last with lever latch. Weight: 8 lbs. 9.5 oz. In original brass cornered oak and leather case with near full suite of accessories including bullet mold serial numbered to the rifle, various sizing, capper/decapper tools for reloading, a large Hawksley oiler, turnscrews and firing pin wrench. The lid with gilt lettered red leather Alexander Henry trade label.

Barrels retaining 98% rebrowned finish with some age related minor exterior blemishes, signature clear, engraving crisp. Action and locks with faint faded traces of the original casehardened finish, engraving crisp. Stock refinished with sharp checkering and minor age related storage and handling blemishes. Exterior of case in good condition with some age related wear and handling marks, interior lining mothed, some wear to label. Accessories generally in good to very good condition.
