Description:

This mid-19th century pistol from Joseph Harkom (1808-1891) is signed "JOSH HARKOM" on the lock and "JOSH HARKOM. EDINBURGH." on the top of the barrel. The rifled, Damascus barrel also has London proofs on the bottom, dovetailed blade and notch sights, and a swivel mounted ramrod. The breech plug has scroll engraving, a platinum plug, and dual platinum bands. The lock and furniture also have scroll engraving. The pommel cap has a compartment with a floral bloom on the lid and a crosshatch pattern. The trigger guard is spurred. The stock has a horn forend cap, German silver escutcheons, and a checkered wrist. The relined case has a reproduction Harkom trade label, a large mainspring vice, screwdriver, nipple wrench, punch, oiler, cap tin, powder flask, container with spare nipples, a cleaning rod, and a ball mold.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 85% plus of an old rebrowned finish remaining on the barrel along with light twist patterns, strong original blue finish inside the trigger guard, 60% original case colors on the pommel cap, aged patina on the escutcheons, and gray and brown patina on the balance. The stock is also fine and has crisp checkering, minor dings and scratches, and smooth oiled finish. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are very good with mild overall wear mostly from age and storage.
