Description:

William Tranter's revolvers were first introduced in the 1850s. It can be fired in traditional double action with a heavy trigger pull. Pulling the lower trigger provides better leverage and only cocks the action. Pull the main trigger once cocked allows a light trigger pull. This example has the First Model rammer with the fixed ramming point and was manufactured around the early 1850s in Birmingham. For a detailed history of these revolvers and their maker see "The Firearms of William Tranter: Birmingham Gunsmith" by Ron Stewart. It has a dovetail mounted post/blade front sight, fixed notch rear sight, "W. TRANTER'S/PATENT" oval marking on the cocking trigger, "ADAM'S PATENT No. 20320Y" on the right of the frame, "Y" shaped safety, Hollis & Sheath retailer marks on top of the frame and barrel, "80/BORE" on the front of the frame, fine traditional scroll engraving, and a checkered grip. Includes a fitted hardwood case containing a dual cavity mold, brass flask, bullet lube tin, cap tin, turnscrew, First Model Rammer, an oiler, and two rod tips.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retains 30% original high polish blue mixed with some brown and grey patina and mostly crisp markings and engraving. The grip is very fine with crisp checkering overall. Mechanically functions, but the return spring is absent on double action. The case is fine with some scattered light handling/storage marks throughout, and the accessories are fine or better with a generally attractive antique patina and some mild wear.
