Completed in 1872 and believed to possibly be the only known 8 bore snap action hammergun, this gun is discussed and illustrated in Graham Greener, “The Greener Collections”, p. 63. With browned damascus barrels engraved with a narrow band of stylized foliage at each breech end. Raised solid concave rib fitted with a bead front sight and signed “W.W. GREENER. ST. MARY’S WORKS BIRMINGHAM”. Single bite snap action with arcaded fences and non-rebounding side locks each signed “W.W. GREENER”. Furniture comprising iron trigger guard and buttplate. Border and scroll engraved throughout. The barrels and action struck with Birmingham black powder proof marks, the barrels each also struck with a Greener “Elephant” trademark. Figured 13 3/4 inch straight hand stock with checkered grip and forearm, the forearm with key fastener and the underside of the butt with small blank silver oval initial escutcheon. Weight 13 lbs.

Barrels with faint damascus twist pattern and retaining 90% rebrowned finish, signature clear but softened. Action and locks retaining 10% faded traces of faded original casehardened finish, engraving clear throughout. Stock with some handling marks throughout, forearm wood possible working replacement, checkering well defined on grip, flattened on forearm, forearm tip a plain wood replacement.
