Description:

Made in circa 1905, this gun features Baker’s forearm ejector system and has gold washed internals to the action. Prior to 1902 this type of gun was referred to as a Monarch model before being reclassified by Greener as the “FH”. With browned damascus barrels each engraved with fine sprays of foliage at the breech end. Concave rib with bead front sight, signed “W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 68. HAYMARKET. LONDON. WORKS ST. MARY’S SQUARE. BIRMINGHAM.”, and engraved with further scrollwork at the rib extension. Treble grip bolstered action signed “W.W. GREENER” on each side, with arcaded fences, blued action floor plate, enclosed Greener cross bolt and blued toplever inlaid with a gold crown. Blued side mounted Greener patent safety catch with engraved “SAFE” and blued trigger guard. The whole engraved with fine scrollwork, foliage and vignettes involving hunting dogs, partridge, a duck, a pheasant and a woodcock. The underside of the barrels and the water table with Birmingham nitro proof marks and Greener “Elephant” trademarks. Figured 14 1/2 inch straight hand stock including rubber recoil pad, and checkered grip and forearm, the latter with blued Deeley & Edge fastener and dark horn tip. The underside of the butt with blank gold oval initial escutcheon. Proved at 12 / 12 (.729/.729), measuring .736 / .735, 2 1/2 inch chambers, minimum wall thickness 0.021 / 0.024. Weight 6 lbs. 9 oz.

Rating Definition:

Attractive engraved twist barrels retaining nearly all of the rebrowned finish, signature and breech engraving worn. Action a slightly mottled grey patina, engraving clear and crisp. Trigger guard, action floor plate and toplever retaining nearly all of the reblued finish, engraving clear. Action internals visible with the floor plate removed retaining 85% original gold washed finish. Straight grain replacement stock with original forearm wood, each with occasional minor handling and storage blemishes and well defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
