Manufactured circa 1872-1873. Browned Damascus steel dovetail lump barrels with single bead sight on the smooth concave rib, chambers proved at 2 1/2 inches with single extractor, and Birmingham black powder reproofs dated 1989 on the flats. Coin finished action and locks with "crown/V" and "crown/BP" proofs on the water table, sculpted fences, engraved sculpted hammers, nitre blued small parts and "PURDEY" maker's marks on the locks. The action and locks have full coverage Purdey rose and scroll engraving with dog and ducks scene on the left and dog and quail scene on the right. Checkered splinter forearm and straight grip stock with Anson latch, monogrammed initial oval, engraved fittings, and engraved heel and toe plates. Includes a canvas wrapped takedown case with Purdey & Sons trade label inside the lid. Stock measurements are: drop at comb 1 5/8 inches; drop at heel 2 3/8 inches; length of pull 14 3/4 inches.

Very fine as professionally restored, retains 70% of the thinning brown finish on the barrels with distinct Damascus patterns, most of the blue on the lever and trigger guard, almost all of the bright nitre blue finish, and the action showing a bright finish overall with crisp engraving. The wood is very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches and generally crisp checkering. Action is slightly off face. Mechanically excellent.
