Description:

As discussed in Beaver's book, the practice of cutting off whole sections of German uniforms was fairly common among G.I. insignia hunters. The shoulder boards are of feldgrau base construction with black overlay, featuring white waffenfarbe piping, silver ribbon trim, and embroidered rectangular patches featuring the LAH unit monogram (one is a small patch set between the lengths of ribbon and the other is longer, with the ribbon attached over it). The shoulder eagle is machine embroidered and zig-zag stitched to a patch of feldgrau cloth. The collar tabs are still installed on their collars, feldgrau wool on the face and bottle green herringbone twill on the underside with silver ribbons, the right having a machined "SS" tab and the left the metal pips and black and silver ribbon of a Hauptscharfuehrer (Company Sergeant Major); the pips have been driven through both the patch and the collar. Finally, a cut off section of sleeve material features two white-on-black cuff titles, the top featuring the script "Adolf Hitler" design and the lower marked "SS-Feldgendarmie". This particular cuff title set can be seen on page 206 of Beaver's "Insignia and Artifacts of the Waffen-SS", where the rarity of dual-cuff wear is discussed and described as having "surfaced from a veteran in Minnesota". The source of the other items in the lot is unrecorded, but make a good fit for the double title sleeve, though the double cuff most likely comes from the Battle of the Bulge, where the directing of vehicles was of great importance due to many divisions in a crowded road area.

Rating Definition:

All items are in good condition overall, showing wear and staining appropriate to age and field use. A rare set of field captured Liebstandarte Adolf Hitler uniform accoutrements.
