Description:

Included in this grouping is a "trapezoid" pattern cap patch (with traces of cap material), two double-rune collar patches (one fully detached silver bullion with partial RZM tag, the other machine made and still attached to a feldgrau collar), four SS sleeve eagles (two machine made on feldgrau backing, one machine made on a flak gunner's black HBT material, and a silver embroidered officer patch on feldgrau), a scarce pointed NCO shoulder board appointed for an unterscharfuehrer of the Der Fuehrer Regiment, and a silver wrist ID bracelet for a Joseph Spare, with U.S. officer's identity number on the back. Consignor notes attribute the officer's sleeve eagle as a field capture by one Lieutenant Massey, a member of the 101st Airborne and a frozen custard shop operator in civilian life, who may have taken the eagle as "war boot" at Normandy. The Der Fuehrer shoulder board and bracelet are attributed to 2nd Lieutenant Joseph G. Spare of the U.S. Army Air Corps, a bomber co-pilot who was downed in France in December of 1943 and successfully escaped through France to Switzerland with the aid of friendly civilians and the French Resistance; it is not noted where or how Lt. Spare procured the board.

Rating Definition:

Very good to fine overall, showing mild wear and staining appropriate to military issued and field captured items.
