Description:

This beautifully engraved '49 Pocket was manufactured in 1860 and has all matching serial numbers. An apostrophe is marked above or below the main serial numbers indicating the revolver was designated by the factory for special finishing. The engraving is Gustave Young's iconic German-American style scroll patterns accented by floral blooms and a bird's head on the left side of the barrel over the loading lever screw and a wolf head on the hammer (no dots on the spur). The barrel has the desirable "-ADDRESS SAM'L COLT/HARTFORD CT.-" marking, a "2" on the left side of the lug, and a dovetailed blade front sight. The left side of the frame has the standard "COLTS/ PATENT" marking in a panel among the scrolls. The left side of the trigger guard has small "B" and "G" markings. The hardwood case contains a Colt brass dual cavity bullet mold without a sprue cutter, some balls/bullets, a key, and an Eley Bros. cap tin.

Rating Definition:

Very good with a nice silver-gray on the right polished steel surfaces, natural aged patina on the grip frame, generally crisp markings and engraving with minor fading on the cylinder and butt, and general mild overall wear. The grip is also very good and has attractive natural aged tones, slight chips at the toe, and minor age cracks. Mechanically fine. The case is fair and has, some glued and nailed repairs, moderate wear on the lining, and some scratches and dings. The accessories are fine with age and storage related wear. Overall, a very attractive '49 Pocket with factory engraving.
