Description:

The Colt's Model 1849 Pocket is the quintessential 19th century civilian revolver and belongs in every antique American firearms collection. With around 340,000 manufactured in 1850-1873, more '49 Pocket revolvers were sold during the 19th century than an other Colt model, and many are known to have made their way to the gold fields of California. This gold rush era '49 Pocket was manufactured in 1853 and has matching serial numbers throughout, including correctly handwritten in black ink inside the rear mortise of the grip. The barrel has a brass cone front sight, the early two-line "{ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY}" address, and a "B" on the left side of the lug. The cylinder has the classic stagecoach hold-up scene and patent marking. The frame has the small "COLTS/PATENT" on the left. The trigger guard has a small "E" and "G" on the left. The custom case contains a revolver powder flask, Colt brass dual cavity bullet mold, cap tin, bullets, and a cartridge pack.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% original blue on the barrel, 25% original blue on the cylinder, 60% original muted case colors, 30% original silver plating with attractive aged patina, strong original niter blue and straw colors on most of the screws, natural aged patina on the exposed brass, mostly gray patina on the balance, and generally minor wear such as some scratches. The grip is also very fine and has the vast majority of the original varnish finish, mild wear at the heel, and light handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are fine and have mild storage wear and a few dents on the flask. A solid representative of one of Colt's most successful models that will display well.
