Description:

The "Split Breech Carbines" were manufactured for Remington under a sub-contract with Savage Revolving Arms Company and were the first Remington long guns to use metallic cartridges and the last contract arms supplied to the U.S. Government at the conclusion of the Civil War. These carbines were manufactured circa 1864-1866 and were first delivered five months after the conclusion of the Civil War. Remington repurchased most of these carbines from the government and sold them to the French government for use in the Franco-Prussian War. Sunburst marked on top of the breech, "113" on left of the buttstock, and two crisp cartouches.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus, retains traces of original blue and casehardened finishes with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina. The wood is also very good with minor dings and scratches scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent.
