Simeon North manufactured approximately 10,500 of these carbines between 1844 and 1855. They saw action during the Mexican-American War and many were rifled for use during the Civil War. This example retains its original smooth bore barrel. The top of the breechblock is marked "U.S/S.NORTH/MIDLTN/CONN./1844." There is a "JN" on the right side of the barrel at the breech and single letter inspector marks on several components. The stock has "WAT" (right) and "JH" (left) cartouches.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% brown finish, traces of faded case colors, some mild pitting primarily on the saddle ring bar, hairline crack in the forend tip, some chipping at the back of the action, crisp recut cartouches, and a few minor dings and scrapes. The front band is refinished. Mechanically excellent.
