The Colt Factory Letter that accompanies the revolver states that this Colt SAA revolver was shipped to J.C. Rodger on November 15, 1893. The letter states that the revolver was caliber ".22/c" with 7 1/2-inch barrel and blue finish. The type of grips fitted to the revolver is not specified in the letter. Only 107 Colt Single Action Army Revolvers were chambered for the .22 rimfire cartridge between 1874 and 1940; surviving examples are rare. This revolver has the 4th style, "Elongated Block" address: "COLT'S PT. F.A.MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." on the top of the barrel and the caliber marking, "22 R.F." on the left side. The left side of the frame has the three date two line patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The serial number is located on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the visible serial numbers match. The replacement cylinder is not numbered: the only marking is a small "&" on the rear of the cylinder face. The revolver has the early oval ejector rod. The revolver has been professionally restored and has a high polish blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame and hammer have a casehardened finish with fiery casehardening colors. The trigger, screws and other small components have a blue finish. The revolver is fitted with a one piece grip. The left side of the grip is inlaid with four five-pointed silver stars and a relief eagle with brass shield.

The extensively restored revolver is fine with almost all of the blue and casehardened refinish. The only visible marks on the revolver are a very faint scratch on the left side of the barrel ahead of the caliber designation and some light turn marks on the cylinder. All of the markings are sharp due to remarking. The grips are fine but are slightly undersized. The action is crisp and functions perfectly. Mechanically excellent.
