Description:

Only approximately 310 Smith & Wesson New Model 3 Australian revolvers were manufactured, all with nickel finish, 7 inch barrels, and detachable shoulder stocks. They were shipped to Australia for the Southern Australian Colonial Police and carried in holster and scabbard on horseback in the wild Australian outback. It has the two-line barrel rib marking ending with the reissue patent date, an Australian broad arrow stamped on the butt, right grip panel numbered to a different gun, and matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder, barrel and barrel catch. The stock is numbered to a different gun ("12222") and has an Australian broad arrow, nickel plated hardware and S&W hard rubber buttplate. The leather flap holster is marked with an Australian broad arrow proof along with the rack number "123" on the inside of the flap. The leather stock scabbard is stamped with an Australian broad arrow and the rack number "75" on the inside.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 80% reapplied nickel finish with the balance a smooth gray patina and a few scattered patches of pitting. The grips are very good with worn high edges, a series of dings on the bottom and some blemishes in the checkering. Mechanically excellent. The stock is very good with the traces of nickel and minor pitting on the attaching hardware and the walnut having some minor handling marks and a chip at the toe. The holster and scabbard are good with minor-moderate wear with the holster also have a detached belt loop rivet and a small hole on the back. Overall the stitching remains tight. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
