This pistol was manufactured around 1851/52 by D. B. Wesson as an early attempt at a metallic cartridge pistol. The pistol utilizes a Flobert style percussion cap round and was a predecessor to the Volcanic Repeating Pistols. There is some engraving on the sides of the frame, trigger guard, and butt. Similar pistols are pictured on page 21 of "125 Years of Smith & Wesson" and page 19 of "Artisty in Arms: The Guns of Smith & Wesson" both by Roy Jinks.

Rating Definition:

Good. Showing some areas of pitting throughout and significant damage to the undersized grips along the bottom edges. Mechanically functions properly. A very interesting piece of Smith & Wesson history! Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
