Manufactured in the 1880s, this large frame, or Pocket Army, revolver features a round barrel, fluted cylinder, top strap and bird's head butt. The revolver is profusely engraved in the distinctive Merwin, Hulbert & Co. style with a highly desirable vignette on the side plate. This vignette depicts a stag scene. The frame is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER" followed "1873" on the left side and "MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. N.Y./POCKET ARMY" on the right side. The hammer has a folding spur. The serial number "5312" is marked on the left grip frame under the grip panel. Matching assembly number "8022" is on the right grip frame, cylinder, and barrel.

Very good, retaining 95% plus of the period replated gold with some thinning and high edge wear as well as some patches of pitting. The engraving is crisp. The trigger guard has a smooth dark gray patina. The grips are very good with some wear. Mechanically needs work as cylinder does not lock when the hammer is down, otherwise action functions fine. An attractive factory panel scene engraved Merwin, Hulbert & Co. revolver with "Old West character"!
