Description:

Manufactured by Edward Barnes & Sons of Sheffield, England c. 1856-1865. The knife shows typical characteristics of Sheffield knives of the era that were manufactured for export to the United States. The overall length is 16 5/8 inches with a 11 5/8 inch spearpoint blade. There are two faint markings on the right, "SHEFFIELD" partially visible on the ricasso and "EDWARD" and "HUNTING" partially visible along with other markings on the central ridge of the blade. The handle is of brass with antique ivory grip scales with German silver escutcheons at the center of each. The sheath is of green leather with German silver fittings and "crown/J.F." in gold on one side.

Rating Definition:

Good, the blade showing mostly a grey patina with some scattered mild pitting and evidence of cleaning/sharpening. The handle shows mostly an attractive antique patina on the brass. The grip scales have age-related discoloration and cracks. The sheath is fair with extensive wear, missing tip, some splits, and tears.
