Description:

This model was introduced in 1908. This revolver has the standard markings and features aside from the defaced serial numbers on the frame and crane and comes with a tag from the John Fox collection listing ""P.G/EITNER/MURDER/GUN-" and "MARTIN/GOLDEN/MILES CITY/POLICE." Paul G. "Shorty" Eitner was charged in January 1918 with shooting Joseph Nugent in a boarding house in Miles City on January 23 of that year in a dispute related to Hope Mathena who was also living there and had caught the interest of both men. She claimed Eitner had never made any advances and that Eitner fired without warning. Before dying from his wounds, Nugent wouldn't talk about what transpired. In "Turkey Pete, the prisoner from Cell #1" by Kevin Maki from Sunday, November 18, 2018, Maki notes that the revolver used was a .38. Eitner later earned the nickname "Turkey Pete" from tending a turkey flock while in the Montana State Prison. He became one of the most popular and well-known inmates and lived out his days there until his death in 1967 even after his 40 year sentence was up because he had lost his grip on reality. He believed he ran the prison and sent checks off to the government and foreign countries. He was such a noted figure within the prison that the guards purchased him a proper tombstone, held a funeral, and retired his prison cell. Martin Golden was chief of the Miles City Police at the time.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus original blue finish, slight fading mainly on the grip straps, the noted filled off serial numbers, flash marks on the face of the cylinder, slight oxidation on the sides of the hammer, and general minor wear. The grips are also essentially excellent and have distinct checkering, moderate aged coloration, and some handling wear. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
