Gastinne-Renette was one of the finest 19th century French gunmaking firms and were famous for offering dueling lessons at their shooting gallery in the center of Paris up to the beginning of World War One in 1914. These pistols are just the type of set they would have had on hand in the late 19th century and are signed "FNI PAR GASTINNE-RENETTE A PARIS" on the rifled barrels which are fluted and have dovetailed blade front sight. Non-adjustable notch rear sights are on the upper tangs. The tangs, locks, and furniture have tight scroll engraving. The stocks have finely checkered wrists and are numbered "1" and "2" respectively on the top of the wrists and "409" and "410" respectively on the left side of the wrists. The case has "GASTINNE-RENETTE/PARIS" inside the lid, a closely fitted interior with small measure, mallet, ball mold, nipple wrench, screwdriver, containers, and rods. The case lid escutcheon is inscribed with "AMZ."

Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue and casehardened finish, some slight handling and storage wear, and some faint spotting. The stock is also excellent and has crisp checkering, a small dent in the back of the wrist, smooth oiled finish, and relatively little handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are very fine and have relatively minor age and storage related wear including some minor oxidation on some of the metal.

Excellent with 90% plus original blue and casehardened finish showing only light fading from age and handling and very limited light spotting. The stock is also excellent and has a few small dings, crisp checkering, a small check behind the tail of the lock, and minor handling wear. Mechanically excellent. These are very attractive French pistols from one of France's most prestigious firms, and they remain in exceptionally high condition.
